On October 29, 2014, Killarney RCMP received a report of well contamination in two wells under construction in the RM of Argyle, Manitoba. Investigation revealed that two separate wells were contaminated with what is believed to be approximately 50 litres of used motor oil.
The wells have not yet been connected to the Town of Pilot Mound’s water supply. The water was not distributed or consumed. Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship was on scene immediately, and crews were able to remove the contaminant before it mixed in with the water supply.
Killarney RCMP and Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship are jointly investigating this occurrence. This is a serious threat to the community’s water supply.
