On November 12, 2014, Leaf Rapids RCMP responded to a report of an explosive device at the Leaf Rapids Education Centre. The RCMP took immediate action and evacuated the Town Centre Complex that houses the Education Centre and the Health Centre. In total, approximately 230 people were evacuated from the area.

The RCMP Explosive Device Unit assisted Leaf Rapids RCMP with the investigation. It was determined that there was no explosive device in the Education Centre and the report was false.

The people who were evacuated have now been cleared to return to the Town Centre Complex.

While the threat was false, the perceived threat was very real, and the RCMP is actively pursuing this investigation to find those responsible.
