During the summer of 2014, Thompson RCMP received several reports of items stolen from their vehicles. In a number of those cases, vehicle doors had been left unlocked and valuables were in plain sight.

On August 2, 2014, in the early morning hours, two males walked through several parking lots in the Cambridge – Waterloo area and went through a number of vehicles. Numerous items were stolen from various unlocked vehicles parked in that area. Video footage was obtained of the suspects rummaging through the unlocked vehicles.
